There once was a girl who looked rather frail. She wasn't the prettiest, sportiest nor the smartest in her 6 grade class. She was skinny and pale, and the complications of reactions from allergies to the world disrupted her sleep at night, which caused the blessings of dark circles under her eyes. Though she had these troubles and at times it would get her down, making her feel that she is not good enough, she still loved to laugh and make friends and goof around. She even managed to tie down her first "boyfriend" to hold hands with....once...
One June day at the class pool party, this little girls friend sat in the hot tub with the boys and overheard them talking about the girls in their year. Well, when the girls name came up it was made very clear how "ugly" she was compared to the other girls there(or just in general). That's when the boy (whom she held hands with once) spoke up and said
"I don't think she's pretty at all, but she's funny and has a really great personality."
Well, that little girls friend was not happy at all, and went to tell her all that had been said and how she thinks she is very pretty.
I swear that little girls heart grew 5 sizes that day. It wasn't the fact that they declared her ugly, but that someone had said that they liked who she was. To her it was far more important because to her it went deeper. That is exactly what made her feel beautiful.
Beauty can be a fickle thing, depending on your point of view. If you compare yourself to another, you will never be happy. The more they change, the more you will wear yourself out trying to keep up. In the end you will end up looking and feeling worse than when you began.
If you compare yourself to an ideology that is far beyond your reach in that point in time, you will surpass your true beauty and will, in time, deplete yourself of everything you've got. Beauty is not just an outward thing. As it has been said many times before, true beauty begins on the inside. It is from the inside that the beauty will shine out and make you beautiful. When I say this, I am not just talking about always smiling nicely, saying "please and thank you" or offering to help a dear old lady across the road.
True beauty is created with four very important things combined. Beauty is created physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally. You cannot have one without the other and be completely sound. Here is why...
Physically - If you do not care for your body, through the foods you eat, exercise, and even what you choose to put on your skin, it will change. It will create an imbalance in your body and become sick and unhealthy, which will then effect your emotions and even your views of life.
Emotionally - If you are not true to yourself and allow yourself to feel and accept your emotions of sadness or hurt, even anger, this will effect how your body functions. It can even get to the point where your body could even begin to shut down.
Spiritually- It is through your true spiritual journey that you are able to know and understand who you truly are. To know this is to accept yourself and how you were created and who you were created to be.
Mentally- The mind is very powerful. It can help build you up but it can also slow you down and even stop you in your tracks. Lies can be created and can very easily become your "truth". Which can create more pain and disappointment.
If you are strong spiritually, you will be able to detect these lies more easily and see the real truth of who you are. When you do that, you may see things you love about yourself, but you may also see things that make you cringe and need to change. But that's the great thing about it. You have the ability to change! It will be an emotional journey, but it's the journey that strengthens you and helps you to see the beauty that you are, inside and out!
When you are strong within yourself, you are. Beautiful.
"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight."
